Functional Assessment

Functional assessment is the key moment for understanding how the body moves, what limitations are present, and where to intervene. Through specific tests we analyze joint mobility, muscle strength, balance, control, and movement patterns. This allows us to build truly personalized programs, avoiding standardized approaches.

Why it matters

Without an accurate assessment, every intervention risks being generic. With a functional assessment, every choice becomes targeted, measurable, and consistent with the person's goals.

Understand your body, improve your movement

At San Rossore Sport Village in Pisa, functional assessment is the starting point for understanding a person's health status and physical capabilities. It goes beyond measuring performance by analyzing strength, endurance, mobility, and posture to support personalized training or rehabilitation programs.

How the assessment works

The assessment begins with an in-depth consultation and a complete medical history. The goal is to establish a clear starting point for an effective, sustainable program.

The data behind the assessment

Functional assessment integrates advanced tools and specific tests to obtain an objective and complete analysis.

  • VISBODY - Body composition analysis
This detects key parameters such as lean mass, fat mass, and the distribution of intra- and extracellular fluids. It also provides indications on posture and body circumferences, which are useful for monitoring changes over time.
  • FMS - Functional Movement Screen

Discover how your body really moves

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is an assessment system that analyzes the body's fundamental movements to identify possible imbalances or limitations. The goal is clear: to understand how you move before pain appears.

Why it matters

Many motor dysfunctions are not immediately perceived, but over time they influence movement quality. The FMS makes it possible to:

  • Identify asymmetries and motor weaknesses
  • Highlight joint limitations or postural compensations
  • Build a solid basis for a personalized improvement program

In rehabilitation and prevention, this means greater attention, precision, and safety.

How it works

The test is based on 7 fundamental movements, including deep squat, inline lunge, shoulder mobility, and trunk stability. Each exercise is assessed through a standardized scale, providing specific indicators on:

  • Joint mobility
  • Stability
  • Balance
  • Motor control

These data inform a detailed analysis and, when needed, a corrective plan. At our center, the process follows three stages: assessment, analysis, and development of a dedicated program.

What this approach offers

Functional assessment is not just a set of tests, but a structured way of working. It means:

  • Attention to the person, considered in their uniqueness
  • A proactive approach, oriented toward prevention
  • A tailored program based on objective data

From assessment to a personalized program

The collected data allow us to build a personalized work program that can develop across different contexts:

  • Land-based activity
  • Work in water
  • Outdoor training
  • Integration of multiple environments into a single program

Each program is adapted over time through periodic reassessments, allowing progress to be checked and the work updated according to the person's goals.

Who it is for

Functional assessment is suitable for:

  • People who want to start physical activity with greater awareness
  • People with pain or limitations
  • People who have had injuries or surgery
  • Athletes who want to improve performance and prevent problems
