Cardiopulmonary assessment on a treadmill using a mask to measure oxygen consumption

Cardiopulmonary and metabolic assessment days · 23 and 27 November 2026

Understanding how your body responds to physical activity is the first step towards informed, personalised exercise. On 23 and 27 November, San Rossore Sport Village is dedicating two days to cardiopulmonary and metabolic assessments, including VO2max measurement.

What is a cardiopulmonary exercise test?

It is an exercise test that examines breathing as well as the heart. You walk or run on a treadmill at an intensity that gradually increases. A mask connected to an analyser measures the oxygen you consume and the carbon dioxide you produce, while your heart rate is monitored. The test is supervised by our professionals and can be stopped at any time.

What it measures

  • VO2max: maximum oxygen consumption, an indicator of aerobic capacity.
  • Fitness Age: an estimate of functional cardiorespiratory age, obtained by comparing aerobic capacity with reference values for age and sex.
  • Ventilatory thresholds: parameters that help define your personal training intensities.
  • FatMax: an analysis of how fats and carbohydrates are used during exercise and the intensity at which fat consumption is highest.

Who it is for

  • anyone who wants to start or return to physical activity
  • anyone who exercises and wants to understand their personal parameters
  • anyone looking for a personalised exercise programme

You do not need to play a sport.

After the test

Our professionals explain the results during a consultation, where you can also explore a personalised Med Gym exercise programme.
